About 30% of our students undergo competition training. Legacy TaeKwonDo of Northern Kentucky encourages competition training to help students challenge themselves to set additional goals to focus on, instead of just testing to the next rank.
Most of our competition students find that they advance faster and become better martial artists in the regular classes, because of the increased challenge, focus, and attention to detail that is required to compete at all levels from local tournaments to the international level.
Competitions allows students to challenge themselves at levels beyond the school standards. Students learn valuable life skills from winning and losing, such as good sportsmanship, humility, fortitude, tenacity, pushing one’s limits, comradery, teamwork, and leadership.
We allow students to compete in competitions that are sanctioned by national and international organizations like AAU, USAT, and USTC, which hold athletes to standards developed by the World Taekwondo Federation, the Kukkiwon, and the Olympics.
Our athletes can compete in Taeguek Forms, Olympic Sparring, Board Breaking, and in tournaments that are more creative like weapon competitions, team forms, creative forms, and demo teams.
We Also Offer Competition Camp
Competition Camp runs 1 full week, Mon - Fri. Students can do full or half day camp. It is design to prepare students who wish to compete. Participants do not have to currently have a tournament coming up to participate, but must be prepared to come to camp with the mindset of intensity of focus and training.
